Do I Need SEO For My Website?

Search engine optimization is the process of having your website setup so that it appears high in the search results for certain keywords. The idea is that you can benefit from the traffic that is brought to your website from the search engines.

The big question is; Do I need SEO for my website to be successful? My personal answer to this question would be “no”. That’s not to say if you ask another Internet marketer they would beg to differ.

I will give you the reason for my answer in the following words of this article. I have been online for the last 4 years and I have never used SEO to profit online. There are many other ways to bring traffic to your website. You have methods such as banner ads, pay-per-click, content marketing and forum marketing to name a few.

All the methods do not rely on the search engines to bring you traffic with the exception of pay-per-click and content marketing. You could have a banner ad on a website that has a high volume of traffic, you are in essence receiving your traffic from that website.

Forums could be defined as an online community where people of common or similar interest visit in order to learn useful information about that topic. You could receive traffic from forums, which is very highly targeted and qualified traffic.

Yet forums do not rely on traffic from the search engines, now I must also say that the forum may be listed in the search engines and this is how members find these forums.

Content marketing is another way to drive highly targeted traffic to your website without using SEO directly. Your articles will benefit from the search ranking of the article directory you submit to, this is a great way to start receiving targeted visitors to your website and fast!

I wasted 17 months trying to drive profitable traffic to my website, but you should not do the same. Instead click here to get a copy of my “Quality Traffic Report”. In it I will show you my results after testing Content Marketing vs. google pay per click, you can use the results to start driving profitable traffic to your website and also increase your opt-in rate. visit http://www.qualitytrafficbuilder.com/traffic

Website Traffic Secrets - 3 Killer Strategies to Get Truck Loads of Buying Visitors!

Contrary to popular belief, you can get tons of free traffic. It’s all about how big you want to think.

Here are 3 killer strategies to get free traffic easily:

1. Article Marketing

This method is a proven way to flood your website with tons of free targeted traffic. The thing here that people don’t get is that the most profitable way by far to make money from articles is to promote your own business. That’s right, don’t promote affiliate programs and send your traffic to a competitor! Create your own information product (spend a day or two writing it, or outsource it to a ghostwriter. It will be well worth it), and market it and keep all the profits. This will boost your bottom line greatly. And with article marketing, you’d want to think in terms of numbers. Submit multiple articles per week or even per day, and you are guaranteed to see traffic results.

2. Forum Marketing

Many people don’t have a specific plan when it comes to forums. They just come to forums whenever they feel like it and post some stuff. Create a plan when it comes to marketing on forums. Create a specific time of the day where you post on forums and do nothing else but that. Have a nice signature file and you will start generating consistent traffic from forums.

3. Search Engine Optimization

As some of us may already know, getting top rankings for highly searched keywords on Google is a great way to get autopilot free traffic. This requires a lot of upfront work on optimizing your sites and getting high quality backlinks, but once the foundations are set, you can maintain your high rankings for years without doing any work sometimes. Now that’s what I call automated traffic!

How To Improve Your Search Engine Ranking

With search engines like Google currently indexing over 8 billion pages, it is becoming more and more difficult to get a top search engine ranking. Type in a popular search phrase such as “Internet Marketing” into Yahoo or Google and you will be returned over 8 million results!

Unless your website is in the first two or three pages, it is unlikely that you will receive many visitors from search engines.

So what should a webmaster do to give their website the best chance of ranking high in the search engines?

All search engines work slightly differently and have ever changing algorithms for ranking web pages, but these tips can be applied when planning, developing or marketing a website to help you reach that top page of search engine results.

(1) Choose your keywords carefully

It’s extremely important to set aside time to research your keywords. It’s best to do this in the planning stages, before developing your website, but many of us start a website without knowing a thing about how the search engines work, so you may find yourself doing this weeks or months later.

Try to choose phrases that are searched on frequently and if possible have a low number of competing websites.

To get an idea of the number of times a keyword is searched for per month, type a keyword into the box at

Overture Search Suggestion Tool

This will tell you how many times your keyword was searched on in the previous month (based on Overture’s partner search engines) and give you a list of similar keywords.

Another useful tool to help you choose your keywords is Word Tracker. This tool will help you choose your keywords and give you a “KEI” for each set of keywords based on the popularity of the keyword (number of searches) and the amount of competition.

You can try this out for free on Wordtracker

If you manage to pick your keywords in the planning stages you may even be lucky enough to find a domain name that contains your keywords.

(2) Optimise your pages

Once you have decided on your keywords you will need to optimise your pages for those keywords. Here are a few tips.

- Ensure that the Title of your page contains your keywords.

- Mention your keywords inside the meta tags. Most search engines no longer use meta tags, but some make use of them so it is still worthwhile using these.

- Try to make sure that the first occurance of readable text on your page contains your keywords

- Ensure that your keywords are mentioned in the initial paragraph of your page

- Use your keywords throughout the text of your page - but be careful not to overdo this. Your page should still be readable by humans!

- Use your keywords between the headline tags on your page (”H1″ tags or H2/H3 if H1 is too big)

- Occasionally bold or italicise your keywords

- Make sure that links pointing back to each page on your site contain the keywords for each page

- Give all your images an “ALT” tag and put your keywords in here too - again, don’t overdo this

- Try to put some of your keywords in your outbound links

(3) Start Linking

One of the most important criteria in getting a good search engine ranking is the number of backlinks you have to your website from related websites.

Type in your chosen keywords to Yahoo or Google and take note of the top 3 sites returned to you.

Now go to Link Popularity Checker and put the URLs of the top three sites into the linking tool, along the URL of your own site.

Have a look at the difference between your site and the top 3 sites and this will give you an idea of how many links you need in order to get a top search engine ranking for these keywords.

The best ways to get links back to your site are:

- By writing articles related to the subject of your website and getting them published on the internet

- Reciprocal Linking with other related websites

- Posting on newsgroups and forums that allow you to have a signature attached to your posting (with your uRL in it)

- Submitting your site to directories.

Try to make sure that the anchor text (clickable text) that links back to your site contains your keywords.

(4) Add Content Regularly

Another thing you may have noticed is that top ranking websites have lots of content.

Regularly updating your website and adding fresh content will also help your site to rank more highly in the search engines.

If you don’t have time to create your own unique content there are plenty free articles available Just type “Free website content” into Google and you’ll have your pick of the 18 million results that it returns to you!

To improve your ranking, follow steps 1 and 2 above and repeat steps 3 and 4 regularly.

Seo And The Long Tail: Can You Optimize For The Occasional Visitor? Part 1

Recently Chris Anderson published a book call the Long Tail. He goes into great detail about on how the ecommerce model is set up ideally for the Long tail and it can have the greatest impact on your business. But How can you really take advantage of that knowledge and do search engine optimization for the occasional visitor?

First you need to understand what the Long Tail really is. In a nutshell the Long Tail is the segmenting of the larger Market into very specific niches and sub-niches. For example if the general market you are in is Pets then a niche would be exotic or domestic, indoor or outdoor, Large or small, etc. Sub-niches of those could be cats, dogs, fishes, birds etc. You could segment it into even more sub niches from there by taking dogs and putting them into large, small, long haired, short hair, child friendly etc. The possibilities are really endless and that is the inherent problem with the Long Tail effect. With so many possibilities it does not become financial or physically possible to do effective Search engine optimization for all the possibilities that will be used by everyone.

SEO Challenges

You must know how your visitor is reaching your site. The are infinite possibilities on how this can happen so you want to be able to track it when it happens. If you are not using some type of Web Analytic Software then you should start immediately. Google makes it’s analytic available to anyone who uses their Adwords service.

Once you have analytics in place you can look for trends of the visitor that come to your site. Here are things to check for

  • Keyword terms and phrases used
  • Web site they came from
  • Pages more frequently visited

Once you have that information you can see the patterns that your visitor leave you. Check out the relationship between keyword terms and phrase to the type of site and web pages that your visitor spend the most time on.

This will give you valuable information an any type of sub-niche that you can now target.

In Part 2 of the article we will look at how to segment your seo results and the best practices to get it done.

Ecommerce Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization companies often see e-commerce (shopping cart) web sites as an obstacle to their search engine optimization platform. Shopping carts are generally template based and most content is pulled from the database.

Its not the typical static HTML web site that is seen in the SEO training text book, but is it really possible to optimize a shopping cart? Well, maybe.

Not all shopping carts are created equal. Most shopping carts written in ASP, PHP, or related languages, can be optimized within the limitations set forth by the program. All of them allow for content pages to be added to the site and some even allow for shopping cart exporting to an HTML format.

There you have it, you have content, link population ability, and opportunity for adding fresh content. But, we are just beginning.

Some problem languages for shopping carts include .cfm (Cold Fusion) and .mvc (Miva Merchant). Both file types are not easily indexed by the search engines so this should be considered before starting your shopping cart project. With that said, some search engine optimization companies may be able to work out a plan to work around your existing shopping cart.

Aside from search engine optimization, another great means of marketing exist for shopping cart owners. Online product placement. Getting your site listed on places like Shopping.com, Bizrate, KCove.com, and Froogle is simple and affordable. Froogle is a free service but your product feed must be updated every month. Other price comparison sites have initial deposits of $50-$200. These sites work on a pay per click platform which have set price per clicks for various categories.

Using price comparison web sites should not be done instead of search engine optimization but rather complimentary to your search engine optimization efforts. For more information, talk to your search engine optimization company.

Summer Versus Winter in Breckenridge, Colorado

Year after year, Breckenridge tops the charts as one of the most popular ski resort towns in the country; but it has certainly become more of a year-round destination over the past few years. Just over an hour drive from Denver, Breckenridge is one of the most easily accessible resort towns, and definitely one of the most desirable areas, for either winter or summer. With regards to real estate however, there is no competition- summer rules. Here’s why.

Snow No More

When late spring turns into summer and the snow finally melts away, prospective buyers are able to walk vacant lots and property boundaries to really get a feel for the land that can’t always be had in the winter months. Another positive the warm weather brings is that surveys, in addition to well and septic tests, are easier to complete after the snow is gone.

Empty Rentals

With Breckenridge being such a ski destination, it is nearly impossible for interested buyers to get the chance to look at rental properties. These rentals are typically booked solid during the ski season, creating a virtual black out in terms of rental properties being effectively shown and sold. However the summer months bring a lull in property rentals, but creates a prime time for the sale of rental properties, land, and houses. The town comes alive with outdoor activities for summer, creating a whole new identity to those who only know Breckenridge as a spectacular ski town.

High Inventory

As a general rule, inventory in Breckenridge increases every summer, bringing many more properties to choose from. Sellers typically hang onto their property for the short term rental income during winter months, then list their rental property for sale after the Breckenridge Ski Resort closes in late April.

The summer season is typically the busiest time for real estate sales in Breckenridge and Summit County. This is due to several factors:

  1. The snow is finally “gone” and Buyers are able to walk vacant lots and property boundaries to get a real feel for the land; and surveys and well and septic tests are easier to complete after the snow melts;
  2. Rental properties are typically booked during the busy ski season, and Buyers are unable to view these properties while they are rented;
  3. With warmer weather bringing beautiful Colorado blue-bird (sky) summer days, Breckenridge’s Victorian Main Street comes alive! Front Range day trippers, vacationers, and locals alike meander through Main Street’s quaint shops and restaurants; live music can often be heard near the Riverwalk Center, along the banks of the rushing Blue River;
  4. Real estate inventory tends to increase in the summer months, with more properties to choose from; Sellers will typically keep the short term rental income during the winter months, and then list their rental property for sale after the Breckenridge Ski Resort closes in late April.

Make no mistake about it, with appreciation on the rise since the early 90’s here, NOW is always the best time to buy in Breckenridge!

Kelli Bennet is a real estate agent in Breckenridge, Colorado. The Kelli Sells team helped over 50 families buy and sell Breckenridge Colorado real estate last year.

How To Get Your Blog Noticed

If you want to optimize your site, drive more traffic and improve your conversion rate, then the first thing you need to do is work on that Blog! Driving renewed traffic to your site can be very simple. The three things you need to know are be a blogger, tag each post, and optimize them for major search engines. Your blog can be the key to getting your business noticed and appreciated.

Write, Write, Right!

First every good blog has to actually be a blog. This means you need to keep it updated, writing a minimum of once a week. The more you write, the more people will read. Also you want to write interesting and noteworthy articles that will attract readers to your business homepage. Each blog article should have a title because search engines look for a site’s information based on the title. Your titles should be clear, have appropriate keywords and engaging. Just like newspaper headlines or magazine covers, your titles must act as a hook for readers.

You should also join social networks like FaceBook, MySpace, LinkedIn to help promote your blog. Linking your blog to a FaceBook site exposes it to your friends, thereby promoting traffic to your blog and business homepage.

Trafficking in Blogs Is Effective and Legal!

Commenting on blogs you find interesting is also a good way to drive traffic. This gets you known through the blogging community and keeps you in contact with people who could link your blog to their site with widgets or other promotional tools. Some blogs link back to your blog each time you comment. You can do this for your comments boxes as an incentive for others to comment as well. And the more links you have on your site, the better your odds are of showing up on major search engines. Google, for example, gives priority to sites that have more links.

Socialize Your Blog!

Each time you update your blog you should ping it. Pinging a blog allows other bloggers to see that you have new information. You can use programs like WordPress that will automatically ping your article to the ping engine of your choice. Pingoat is a great one.

With every new article you put on your blog, you should tag it on sites like Del.icio.us, Digg, and Technorati. To maximize your blogs potential with tagging, you should make your articles keyword friendly and ping them as well. Tagging your blog articles makes your blog, and essentially your business, more available to readers and potential clients. These tagging and pinging websites help promote your blog and drive traffic.

Multiply Your Effectiveness!

Another great way to promote your business through the web is to optimize your site for major search engines. Google gives priority to sites with more pages than fewer. By using programs like WordPress, you can expand the number of pages you have on your blog. What WordPress does is make each post viewed by Google as an individual page. Also some posts can appear multiple times for various searches, thereby making them seen as more than one page.

If you follow these tips, your blog will be on its way to working for you and your business. A key to site promotion lies within your blog. So keep your blog updated, fresh and interesting.

8 Simple SEO Techniques Every Webmaster Should Know

Every webmaster should have some basic understanding of
these simple SEO techniques if they want to achieve
Top Rankings for their site. The more you know about these
Search Engine Optimization techniques; the better your
web pages will fare in the different search engines,
especially Google.

Optimizing your pages for the search engines should be
your main priority because conquering and dominating your
chosen keywords is often cited as one of the major
determining factors in the success of your online site
or business. You must have a rudimentary grasp of how
SEO can work for you and your site.

These simple SEO Tips will help you understand
the basics and help you reach your online goals.

1. Title Tag

The Title Tag is located at the top of your html page
and it tells the search engines what your page is about.
When you open your page in a browser these are the
words at the very top of the screen. Despite its simplicity,
the title tag is crucial to ‘on-page optimization’; it should
include your main keywords and it should be 63 characters
or less if you want your title to appear in full on Google.

Many SEO experts create web pages in a three-prong
approach. They place the title in:

- the title tag

- on the webpage itself

- and in the URL for that page.

Sometimes they will just pick the main keywords from
the title and place them in the anchor url instead.
For example: www.yourwebsite.com/keywords.html

3. Meta Description Tag

The Meta Tag contains the description for your web page.
Your description will show up in all the search engines
so you have to be careful to write precisely and objectively.
It should be about 140 characters or around 20 words.
Make sure to include your keywords but don’t spam; don’t
repeat your keywords more than twice, using variations is
helpful.

Keep in mind, successful webmasters make their descriptions
stand out from the crowd and entice the surfer to click
their link. It is also the first contact with your potential
visitor or prospect so make a good first impression.

3. Anchor Tag or URL

The anchor tag is used to form links within websites
or from site to site. This tag should have your title
or the main keywords from your page title to be the most
effective.

Anchor text is also important to know, these are the
underlined, clickable text or words in a link.
<*A HREF="url"> anchor text <*/A>

If you want to check Google for all web pages
containing your keywords in the anchor tags.

Just type into Google Search:
allinanchor:yourkeywords

4. Finding Backlinks

One of the keys to higher rankings is building quality
links from relevant related quality sites. The search
engines, especially Google, counts each link as a “vote”
for your site or content. Many experts suggest you include
your main keywords in the anchor text of these inbound
links in order to rank high.

If you want to find the number of backlinks your site
has.

Just type into Google Search:
link:yourURL

and it will give you the number of backlinks you have.

Google doesn’t give you all your existing backlinks,
so you can try Yahoo! to find a more exact number.

Just open Yahoo! and type in:
linkdomain:yourURL

5. Checking Indexed Pages

If is very important for you to know what content
the search engines have indexed from your site.
You can also check to see how your links are
displayed and to see if any titles or descriptions
are missing from your pages.

You can see how many of your pages are indexed
in Google by using the site command.

Just type into Google Search:
site:yourURL

Another way to look at your pages in Google
is to type in “http://yoursite” and “www.yoursite”
with the quotation marks to see the exact number
of listings for each.

6. Checking Google Cache

You can also check to see the Google Cache
of your site by using the cache command.
You will also discover when it was last
retrieved.

Just type into Google Search:
cache:yourURL

7. Finding Associated Keywords

Keywords are the heart of the Internet, you
must dominate the search engines for your
chosen keywords if you are to succeed online.
You must be able to find variations of your
keywords to completely conquer your targeted
niche. To find what other keywords Google has
associated with your main keywords, just use
the tilde ~ command to find associated phrases
in Google.

Just type into Google search:
~keywords

Variations will be highlighted in bold print.

8. Finding Titled Keywords

If you want to find competing sites that have
your keywords in the title just use the allintitle
command.

Just type into Google search:
allintitle:yourkeywords

In summary, if used consistently, these basic SEO
techniques should help improve your rankings and keep you
in the picture with regards to your standings in the search
engines. Your site’s stats or raw traffic logs will also confirm
the rise or fall of your keyword rankings. You must have
complete knowledge of both your site and your keywords
in the search engines, especially Google. Since Google will
deliver most of your quality traffic, you must optimize for
it and be aware of what is happening to your site and keywords
within Google. This is yet another example where knowledge
equals success.
